day before the closing post

wow...i really didn't expect i'd b dis consistent in posting my mother's advice evry single day in march...but alhamdulillah, sumhow, i did manage...:D

today's advice wud b the last one b4 the final post tomorrow...uhuh~
an advice...
that i personally witness...
which can change...
a very cool gurl into a "giddy' one...LOL
an advice i can't object to say dat people fall into giggles and smiles....ehem...
the one dat gurls my age...of course wud b talking n definitely thinkin about...hahaha
this advice...if u got it, it will definitely b really hard to forget!

well, it's obvious "about what" it is by now ryte?

hmm...dis was about 3 and 1/2 yrs ago plus minus 2-3 months...i was at the airport...wif all my families...n of course dear friends...most of the gen6 to b exact (some of us flew first)...we were due to depart to egypt...:D

wif all the cryings and goodbye sobs...i hugged all my family members...jz by the escalator down to the passport site...n on my mother's turn (the last one)...hugged me n held my shoulder...mama said-

"eh! liyana kalau nk kawen nnt bg tau mama dulu tau!"

....

.....

..........

huh???

for a moment there i tot...huh???

"hehe...takkanla x bg tau mama!"...
honestly, i didn't see dis advice coming...LOL...
but...
reaching my fourth yr here in cairo...i understood why mama gave me dis advice!...:D

dun worry mama...if i do have the intentions, u'll b the first person to know!
(owh mimi, of course u too!...but after my mum k!)

this life is really filled with loves~

March 29, 2010

baca doa tolak bala

today's advice came very recently, jz last yr during the swine flu pandemic

i received an email from my mum, attached to it-

urm...great...amalkn!
but sorry mama, i didnt...forgot about it once i've saved it...but, when i went home last yr n evrybody "knows" to read it after maghrib together...i tend to remember it-

thnx mama!

wondering, does dis work on seasonal flu?~
may evryone stay healthy especially nk exam nie...hehe...ameen!

March 28, 2010

dun b too direct!

hmmm...

well, i dunno about my personality...honestly it really depends on individual judgement...but i came to realize dis one particular habit of mine - straight to the point! (or in other words...too direct n i'll get people responding like dis- "slambe je cakap macam tu!"...erk~)...LOL

#or sumbody literally did respond to me like dis "lynne, dat really isn't a compliment!"...huhu...i really do apologize for my misuse of proper description, honestly, no offense!

well, i never thought that it was a bad thing until-

one evening, while we were heading back from a book fair or a pc fair from PWTC (if am not mistaken), well, u know KL~...so "zahmah" as egyptian says (crowded):p...my parents and i were stuck in KL's traffic jam...n we were due to pick up my youngest brother from school but mama thought dat we cudn't make it, so-

"liyana, tolong call ona...cakap kat dy, mama n ayah stuck kat KL...rasenye dlm 2 jam lagi nie...x sempat nk sampai shah alam jemput amat...boleh x mintak tolong ona jemputkn amat dari skolah."

"ok!"...n i absentmindedly dialed ona's number and she picked up-

"hello, ona...ni..mama mintak tolong amekkn amat kat skolah-..."

"isyh!...bukan cakap macam tu!!!...explainla dulu...we are trapped in traffic jam! haisyh!!! bak sini handphone tu biar mama cakap!"

huh???

i was blurrrr...was it wrong???..."manners dear...manners!...nk mintak tolong orang kene berlapik sikit, baru org x rase berat nk tolong kite"

ooo...(huhu...leceh la, stret to d'point kn senang- i tot to myself...however we say it, it still means the same)

n i never really gave another thought on this subject

not until i started living independently and have to deal wif many kinds of people around the world.

yup!...manners is important - to keep the friendship going on...to keep the bonds among our colleagues n peers and doctors and patients and of course most importantly on asking people for help! (people are variable...mind u!...- n of course, they includes me...LOL)
hadn't mama exposed me to such condition, i'd be ignoring this trivial but proves to be crucial act-

i apologize if i unintentionally being so direct to any one of you..mayb it's my nature (huhu)...but i can't deny, we need to learn the art of communication~
*haha, funny to think of that we still have 4 communication skill classes to finish...

March 27, 2010

urgh!!!...crowded!!!

now dat am out of school n i definitely remember one night when i was 9 years old...we had a family gathering in the living room wif my grandma, aunts n uncles n mama said-

"kalo da habis skolah, x kire la umor brape...i will let u guys go out wif your frens to wherever u like! but for now, one of us kene ade skali."

i was looking forward to that moment-
so, right after i ended my SPM, i tested...n alhamdulillah mama n ayah let me go...i dunno if u guys remembered dat night or not...hehe...jz dat...u sent n took me by car dat first tyme...

but now, i am absolutely free to go wherever i want...:D
thnx mama!
not dat i dun like staying wif you, but exploring this world is fun too!
n evrytime u drop me off at the comuter station u'd say -
"liyana jgn pegi tempat yg crowded sngt!...ikut jalan yg sume org gune n dun go out of the building!"
hehe, yes ma!

after studying community medicine, i see how important this advice is for my physical well being =P

but i can't avoid crowdedness in egypt-

huhu...

owh, n ma...ayah...we're going to have an end round exam in another 2 weeks...smayang hajat for us k!:D
luv ya!

responsibility

dis story was about one of the first job assigned to me after i finished school (i never really had the chance to be responsible in sumthing yet while am in my school ages)

my aunty, she is an english teacher...she wanted me to help her typing sumthing out since i was so free at that tyme. "ok!" i said. she said she'd give me the material to be typed out on friday and my mom heard all these conversation going out.

by friday, i forgot all about our agreement and went to visit school wif my frens...so, that evening, as my mum and dad picked me up from school, mama asked-

"bukan yana janji ngan aunty bariah nk type out her school works ke?"
dang!...huhu..."ooppss, i forgot!"...
"hmm...mane boley macam nie!...da cakap kene buat!...u have to apologise!"
erk...(am embarrased now)...hehe
at last, mama called aunty bariah and explained dat i was at school and didn't get the chance to finish up her work...phew!...

hehe... thnx mama!

but after dat i got a very long lecture about responsibility and following datelines throughout our journey back home from gombak...huhu

luckily my mum was around explainin' all my careless mistakes...but i dun get her to cover up for me around here much...huhu...well, dat really isn't my point, hehe...:p
i mean,we can't always expect there are simple solutions to our problems...i shud've faced it straight-face n called aunt bariah myself...

but dat day really taught me sumthing important-
take responsibility to wut u have said...hurm~
and also - admit u've made a mistake

(haha, teringat ayah bengang once when i dun wanna admit i didnt look at the side mirror mase nk kluar dari roundabout atas stadium...i did look honestly!...but i jz didnt have the reflex to turn my steering away dat night...sorry la ayah~) - still x admit jugak...:p

March 25, 2010

doa yg makbul

dis was 6 years ago...around october, when i was about to face my finals. 12 subjects to me at the tyme was impossible! n i called mama always to ease the pressure...and mind u, any outing will b spent at home!

so one of those days when i was at home, mama said...
"berusaha tu berusaha jugak, tp doa jgn lupa!...hmm..cube yana bace yassin, n stop kat 7 tempat nie...n doa kat situ. ade org ni bgtau mama mase mama kat jabal rahmah...dy kate kalo doa kat 7 tempat dlm surah yassin ni makbul!"

hurm...okay~

hehe...it didn't actually releases my tension at that moment...i was still worried...but one morning, b4 PQS's (pendidikan quran sunnah) exam, i tried...after subuh, b4 breakfast...i read yassin, stopped at those 7 places n i prayed - "ya Allah, bglah dy tanye soalan tajuk yang ak akan revise pagi ni b4 exam!"

after breakfast, i went to school (2 minit je jalan kaki pon..haha)...there was an assembly (we have 'em everyday infact), and unfortunately the assembly was too looooonnnnngggggggg!!!!...now i became anxious...huhu...i havn't read the last topics yet (tokoh2 islam - i always save dis for the last...owh y???)...

after the assembly. we have 15 minutes to line up in front of the exam hall...huhu, i rushed into class to grab my stationaries n flipped open the text book for a swift look..."huhu...nk bace yg mane ni???"...i read the one which was propped opened (sorry i forgot whom he was)...

"lynn cepat!!!, sume org da turun!" my fren called, i was the only one left...so i closed the book 'bismillahitawakkaltu3allallah'...n went.

in the xm hall...flipping thru all the questions first, my eyes caught the section where they asked about "tokoh2 islam"..."berikan **** yg dikeluarkan oleh****"...

wut???...jz the one i read in those swift flipping pages this morn!

Alhamdulillah!!!...

thnx mama for this piece of information!
i never doubt Allah's help after that!...n living in egypt proves that even more!

*owh, n the seven sites where we stopped to ask for are those verses that ends with the word "mubin"
(verse 12, 17, 24, 47, 60, 69 n 77)

jz a few weeks ago, mama messaged me to recite the first 9 verses of surah yassin everytime before going out - y? i asked...doa pelindung...my mum answered...hee...am fne mama!...thnx!

March 24, 2010

follow how the chinese studies

this advice came with one of my mum's long lectures during dinner...

no malas-malas ok!!!

i dun precisely remember word by word (as i was kind of absorbed with my dinner in a sense...hehe) but "mafhum"nya...(which means, "it means") sumthing like dis-

"tgk care chinese ajar anak dy, balik rumah terus buat kerje skolah...n den tusyen...x de duduk depan tv x gerak2...kalo maen, maen betul2!...kalo x siap kerje rumah kene rotan!...baru boleh pandai!...nnt nk cari kerje susah...org dah x tgk straight A's nie...kene lebeh!...tp stret A's tu kene ade jugak!...kerje nnt pon kene cepat!...jgn nk tunggu org suruh baru nk buat! hantar kerje on time!"...n follows...

these are mayb 1/10th of the talks...hehe...well, mama was working with chinese back then, but i can't deny most of them are consistent workers! thankfully, they do motivate me...i just never had the chance to study in a mixed school yet since primary.

"blajarlah hingga ke negeri china!"

well, in conclusion...i found out wut mama meant was, if u wanna do sumthing...do it as best as you could!...

*yesterday's lecture - cud an otorhinolaryngologist prevented WWI???
*tody's report - found my specs!!!...finally~ (alhamdulillah!)

March 23, 2010

wake up!!!!

dis is the result of staying in boarding school!...haha
i used to be irritated whenever people told me to go to sleep (as if they dun wanna let me into the fun...huhu), but after experiencing life in boarding school...i can't deny, getting sleep is precious!!!

i dunno if u have been ask dis same question...but most of my friends who havn't stayed in boarding school always wonders wut make 'us' sleep in class...hehe...jz passion of sleep dears~

and so came the episodes where my mum have to wake me up for subuh prayers every morning-

"liyana!!! wake up!!! x elok bgn matehari da tinggi...hilang rezeki nanti, burung2 sume da bangun da cari rezeki!"

burung???...hehe...i can't forget that morning...first tyme i heard my mum using a metaphor~...LOL, wut came to my mind that morn was..."since when did mama became superstitious?"...huhu...little dat i know after telling this story to my aunt she replied- "ade dalam hadith la yana!"

n, wonderfully...last yr, my arabic teaher, ust ibrahim told me this hadith during one of our learning session-

Rasulullah saw telah bersabda:

(HR. Imam Tirmizi)

n ust ibrahim explained that the word 'taghdu' means 'takhruj fi as-sobah' (going out in the morning)

so, people...there is always a reason why Allah created certain things as it is...n the nature that we need to wake up in the morn and sleep at night is one of them...(now teringt blajar CNS mase 2nd yr)

let's start our day in His blessings!
n thnx mama!...ur advices always in stores wonderful meanings~

March 22, 2010

sweep under the mat!

no no no!!!...not like dis!
still on the same day...my first day in boarding school...mama was sweeping the dorm (erk?) n the she puts a plastic map on the floor beside my bed...

"ni so dat kklg tak sejuk duduk atas lantai...but sapu hari2 tau! n jgn lupe sapu bawah tikar nie skali...bukan sapu atas je!"

not sweeping all the dust to under the rug!...:p

wut i got from my mother's advice here is - do ur work till the end!...well, not only about sweeping the floor...if mama asked me to dust the cabinets or do the dishes...yeah u wash the dishes crystal clear, but dun forget to keep the sink clean n dry too, not jz the dishes...n so many more daily house chores examples...

finish wut u started pronto!
huhu...n i find it so difficult nowadays...i really appreciate those who gave a hand for me all this while...:D

March 21, 2010

smelly???(pinching nose)

haha
dis advice i got when i was 13 yrs old...first tyme into boarding school~

among the numerous advices my mum gave as she was folding my clothes into my locker, dis one was really unforgettable...she said-

"kklg, u must wash ur clothes everyday okay! lepas mandi tu terus basuh baju yg da pakai, basuh dlm bilik mandi tu...gosok2 sikit...senang jer... so x susah kumpul banyak2...n dun be smelly! malu mama nnt!"

hehe...thnx for dis advice mama~

but i really can't stop smelling sweat after finishing a basketball game or running the whole Nile river (macam la lari jauh sngt...haha)

March 20, 2010

100 souls

hav u ever heard the story of a man who killed a hundred soul?
(it was the topic discussed in one of BPI's program last Thursday)

in d'end, he consulted d'one who have knowledge n was advised by dat man to go to a place where the people are benevolent...

skip the story...if u wish to know about it kindly ask~

my point is...see how important a person's environment is for him/her to change...especially from bad to good!
this is where my mum's role came in...i was tremendously glad dat she n my dad took really great care with whom i befriend~

remembering my days when i was in form 1 where dey purposely made a family trip to PD so just i dun go hangout wif my friends (well, not hangout like in mall, it was a trip to sumwhere...i forgot where~)...thnx a million mama n ayah!!!

i know it's not really nice to judge people n stuff, but choosing a good fren is actually crucial in our early stage of life to shape us like who we are now

and am really grateful now to be dumped wif a bunch of 'the most magnificent group of people i ever met in this world' here in egypt!...thnx for being around evrybody!

exercise!

there are many types of exercise...physical, mental, social, aerobic, anaerobic, stretch...etc...
y do we need to do them?
frankly speaking...in my opinion- to be healthy!:D

well, my mother's advice today is not about those stretch, aerobic or any other physical exercise, today is about-

exercise books

i was introduced to these kinds of exercise at the end of yr school holiday standard 3...

"nex year yana da nak start blajar subject science, bace dulu buku beforehand time cuti nie, n wat latihan...so u can catch up nex yr!"...my mum said sumting like dis to me...(x ingt her exact words)

urm...well, u know...as i was growing up, i began to take serious wutever my mum advices me s they usually turns out to b true (like the specs n brooch case...tho i found it out way later in life)...so i did them...not all for sure!...only in d'first week of holiday...hehe

but now...in meds school...especially when we r being left to decide for ourselves to study or not...doing exercise is real damn IMPORTANT!...(whoa...now am telling people sumting i shud b doing myself...pray dat i'll do dem please~)

thnx for dis early exposure mama!

but of course...no matter how much u strive for an 'A', remember that fate is in the hands of Allah...once u've strive, u leave the rest...n insyaAllah He will give u the best!
(org yg di uji lebih disayangi olehNya)

owh...n also to promote my batch's aim - "100% Mumtaz" - all the best evrybody!
(bukan bujang sifar k...haha)

March 18, 2010

spectacles

once u've read the title, u'd expect my mom's advice that i wud like to talk about today is-
"jgn duduk dekat sngt ngan TV!!!...rosak mate tu nnt!"

hehe...
well, i did get dat advice-
but about 3 times only...i wasn't dat stubborn u know...(kan mama kan?)

the most frequent one i got wud b-

evrytyme my mom wanna watch TV, n she didn't hav her glasses by her~

"kklg, tolong amekkn spec mama"
n so i went to fetch it, just dat...i can't help my self to not wear it on the way to give it back to her!...wut does it feel to look behind these round glasses?...haha...
n if mama caught me wearing them-
"liyana, jgn pakai spec mama!!!...rosak mate tu nnt, power mama tinggi!!!"
n of course, i dun believe dat- then...huhu

but now, after studying the physiology of eyes...n about to start my ophthalmology round nex sunday...(cepatnye~)...i can't deny d'fact my mom gave anymore~...

dis one looks like mine...(x penah terfikir nk amek gmbr spec b4 dy hilang...huhu)

*i need to wear em since my third yr in meds school...i often misplace it, but usually found it back...jz, dis tyme i can't find it anywhere anymore...uhuk...kene buat baru~ (bile ntah-)...where r u Mr specky???

debate smalam...POI = "please! dun brake my heart!"...gud one ayu!...:D

March 17, 2010

a basket of fruits~

-written on a very blissful day-

reminiscent of memoirs from my primary school, i'll never forget dis one for sure~
i was in standard 3 primary school, n s usual...before an art exam, we would be given a list of required paintings or arts for a one hour exam the next day...so i brought mine back, my mum told us (my brother n i) to study for the exam...study for arts???...it sounds funny to me at the tyme, we were busy watching doremon as usual...LOL

i swerved, not in the mood to join my brother's n my mother's study group...but then, their drawings caught my eyes...n i was suddenly very interested in learning how to draw that-

- draw a basket of fruits -

so my mum taught us, first...draw a big huge 'S' in the middle of ur drawing-

nex, draw the basket below the 'S'...two slightly narrowed down vertical lines n a slightly curved base to complete it-

then complete it wif a handle...n upside down 'U' like dis-

nex fill it up wif fruits-

and finally, decorate it as u like~

done!jadi x mama?...i practiced dis whenever i got the free tyme...hehe, but i dun get the chance to color it up yet...huhu

one great lesson!...thnx mama!...it's been my inspiration! i really luv drawings~

final cultural day report-
i didn't notice dat cultural day was a really valuable experience until shae pointed it out-

"alah lynn, ni baru layan org sehat, nnt kite nak kene layan org saket...lagi penat!"

a memorable experience describing "malaysia" n its traditional games (am so gud in congkak by now - in explaining part...lol) to the outsiders!...my brain was so clogged wif translating stuff into arabic...God!, it's a real relieve once dey said dey speak english...:D
(the booth was full...imagine if it was an ER...wud dey ask nicely?...is my upcoming yrs' gonna b worst?)

congratz to all involved!...it's been wonderful!

ENT td...get to chat wif dr Aly elGarem about Guillotine...really interesting! ophthal comes early...erk!

March 16, 2010

tidy room

evrytime...oops, no no no...most of the time i wanna walk out of the house, it's kind of a routine to make sure the room is tidy...(well, not exactly very clean, just pleasant to b looked at once u return home)...

it sometimes reminds me how my mom used to tell us to clean up our room...

"liyana...safwan...gi kemas bilik!"...LOL

it didn't occur to me then how very crucial dis act is for my psychological well being until i've started living independently-

how so, because...a tidy place calms us down when we return home from a hectic day!
n calm minds usually r proactive~(ehem*)

so...tidy up ur rooms b4 u go out!...

*huhu...ma, da lame x dpt advice from u...

*jom tgk persembahan cultural day on closing ceremony after class today!

March 15, 2010

ka-ching!

i dun usually hav a specific music genre's fav, it really depends on my interest at dat moment...n today, it's about "ka-ching!" by shania twain...

coz, in a way...it reminds me of this event-

just a few days before i started my primary school, my mom called me to come into her room n learn something...learn how to use *MONEY* (*blink2*)

now, money is another thing am really interested in investigating...LOL

so, my first introduction to money was to remember these-

owh...easy...haha
nex...
we mock-played as a customer and a seller...my mom was the seller, n i was the customer (obviously)...

"ok, kalau kklg nk beli air harge 30 sen, which one will you give the cashier?"...my mom asked...

i pointed to these...(hehe da budget kene kire2)

"hurm, if u dun have these...if u only have this...kklg kene buat camane?"
hurm...i need to change it into those smaller values first then...dunno~

"kalau kklg x de duit yg nilai dy kecik, org kedai tu kene bagi baki la...from 50 cent, tolak 30cent air td how much shud you get?" my mom taught me-

"20!" i replied..."okay, yg mane satu?"she asked-
"yg ni!"...i pointed
n so on...we carried on wif diffrent ways n values of using the money...(x ingt details...it was a millennium ago~)...n sumhow, i realized it became like some sort of ritual to my sibs n me whenever any one of us is about to enter primary school, my mum will call us over to her room n teach us one by one....

thnx mama...being independent here  n getting the chance to hold *big* money (RM 10 was a big amount to me once...LOL)...i realized how crucial it was for you to teach me dat lesson 14 yrs ago-

*tho being busy is tiresome, but free time kills you!
*cultural day report - i can't believe myself dat i never knew anything about kazakhstan!!!! preposterous!...i knew dat these "-stans" ending countries do exist, but how on earth have i never thought of finding out about their culture, people n country??? (i jz knew where they are situated in the world's map yesterday...can u believe dat?)...since yesterday's crowd was unbelievably copious, i'll hav to find out more about them tomorrow~ :D

March 14, 2010

a place for everything, and everything...must be in place!!!

"....if i've said it once i've said it,
at least a thousand times before that
you're too old to act this way,
it must be, your father's DNA!
look at me when i am talking,
stand up straighter when you walk,
a place for everything,
and everything must be in place,
stop crying or i'll give you something real to cry about,
oh!"

i purposely copied the lyrics of the video on the left bar...
because...it strongly, n remarkably accurately reminds me of my mom!

(it's just too many times that my mom have to say "brape kali mama nk cakap???...da amek letak balik kat tmpat dy!!!")

for example,i took a jar of 'coco crunch' to in front of the TV as snacks and how interestingly forgettable i cud b to leave it der and get the same sentence of -"brape kali mama nk cakap???...da amek letak balik kat tempat dy!!!"- the moment my mum saw d'jar of 'coco crunch'~

or if i took out some mugs for a drink and left it on the dining table (d excuse was always, i just used it once..huhu), or a stack of newspaper (dis one ayah yg slalu kene...hehe) or,...so many more~

and dat's why, every time i look at the mess on my table now (ecece...nk specific kat meja je plak)...ok fine...in my room...i am always reminded dat...if only i put things from where i got them dis mess wudn't b here...hehe~

-tidiness is more preferable as a muslim-

*alf syukran to everybody involved in yesterday's international day! i had a million joys!:D... (iqa baby face???)
cultural day on the move!
*happy bday kinah kamil!!! - go n call ur momsss~

March 13, 2010

socks n shoes~

my mom is really particular with our footwear
sandals = no socks
shoes = SOCKS!!!

and, change ur socks everyday! (erk~)

so, eventually it's really hard to forget dis message s u go out wearing shoes evryday...unless u purposely dun wanna wear 'em...hehe
(jz curious...does anybody wear shoes without socks?...raise up ur hands plz!)

k, nex...wanna promote dis series...i've been watchin' it last winter holiday but coincidently it has sumthing to do wif foot diseases-

March 12, 2010

car ride~

i heard a story once in one of the motivational camps we used to have during high school...the motivator said-

"i was driving the car, wif my dad behind me and my mum beside him...they were already old at the moment n i was keen to spend s much of my time wif them...suddenly, my dad was kicking the back of my seat vigorously...'wut's happen dad?' i asked...'nothin' he answered...'then why are you kickin?'...'owh!...i've been dying to do dis for ages! so now u know now how i feel evrytime i drive n sumbody kept kickin' even tho i said no!...hahaha'"

LOL...got it?...the father was having fun revenging...

the moment i heard dis story, i am always reminded to b silent in a car...and particularly after i took my driving liscence's test...hehe

y...

cause my mom always says
'senyap sikit dlm kreter!...ayah kene focus kat jalan raye!'
['be quiet in the car!...dad needs to focus on the road!']

LOL~

#safe trip evrybody!...(hope the three of u speak chinese bile da balik nnt!)
