the heel never heals

'didn't they say that the heel never heals'
-Dr Hussein M. Khairy

i took interest in writing about heel because,
in one of my general surgery tutorials,
in our lesson of arterial diseases (high blood pressure mainly and high blood cholesterol) and diabetes
Prof Dr Moataz explained about the skin on our heel in exquisitely mesmerizing construe

he questions...

we do realize that the skin on our heel is the thickest of all skin right?
it is obvious why...we walk on our heel!
our whole body's weight is loaded upon it! plus pressure, sharp objects, accidents...
an "injury-prone" site
the thick skin is put there for protection
alhamdulillah ^_^

but, do we also notice that our heel is extremely sensitive?

if there's a shoe with the tiniest pebble coincidently slipped in it
and you wore it walking from home to your tutorials
it'll irritate you like hell!
(pardon my language...hehe)

you'll definitely stop before you reach your destination to throw that irritating pebble out. ryte?
but if not...please do so,
it's the rights of the skin on your heel...please protect it from injury! :p

another example...
try to fondle the heel of your friend or family with the softest feather you can find (grin mischievously...hehe)
another irritation huh?...haha
if he or she doesn't feel...
either they purposely habituate (duh~)
or have decrease sensation detector (o ooww)

the thickest skin on our body
has the sensitivity as sensitive as our lips

isn't it mesmerizing?
(agree even if you don't...haha, for me...:D)

you can't find any other skin on your body to substitute for your heel!
subhanallah!!!

but diabetes (high blood sugar)
can destroy our nerves...
rendering us from the sense of feeling
and if we forget to check our foot for injuries...
it may be destroyed to the point of no cure =(

and arterial diseases,
they can decrease blood to our foot (i.e. furthest structure from our heart),
making the foot an easy target for infection
and gangrene T_T

and unfortunately,
diabetes,
high blood pressure
n high cholesterols
are common in our advancing civilization...huhu
they are preventable though (rising eyebrows...hehe)

do care for our precious irreplaceable 'mesmerizing' heel

and this applies to our whole body too...
even how trivial you feel a part of your physical is,
there's countless miracle reason it is there...

*the reminder also need to be reminded ;)
