today i saw a BOGOTA BAG!! ^_^

yup, after over a month i've heard Dr. Hussein Khairy mentioning Bogota Bag in his lecture...with the idea that am living in somewhat a well equipped area, never had i imagined i'd get to see a Bogota Bag this early in my medical life! ^_^

Bogota bag is the blood or plasma bag used to close your abdomen temporarily
in case you need to stop the surgery for what ever purpose and will continue nex time
or, you met a burst abdomen patient (horrorrr!!!)

in courtesy of certain friends n family...hehe,
do click the address below if you wish to see the temporary abdominal closure
http://bestpractice.bmj.com/best-practice/monograph/1125/resources/image/bp/1.html

and i was inspired by the resident,
who was so helpful
to teach me about shock,
how to cannulate a shock patient
and assess the patient's improvement
in details!!

"i believe it's important for you to know a bit of everything, even if you are going to specialize in whatever field one day, you can't say 'i don't know how to treat you, am just a peadiatrician!' for example,  ryte?"
a meaningful reminder he gave me ^_^

whenever i read about shock emergency or was confronted with it,
this unlucky patient will come into my mind

flirting n brain tumor

boys, guys, men would love this story...hehe

"what if, the part of brain that was traumatized is an important area for example the motor cortex...would we still debride it?" i emphasized on the "important area" word

"yes, clean the wound as properly as you can..you need to remove any dead tissues you found as they are good culture for infections n by the way they are dead!...we can't make them alive again...but, since u raise the question...are there actually such things as the "silent areas" in the brain?" dr Mohamed Elborady raised another question for us

this caught my attention....weren't there?

"they are called silent areas in the brain only because we cannot find its function. but the real fact is, each and every part of the brain has its function! the thing is...do we use every part of it?...they say, we can see what these silent areas do in intelligent people...but we don't go messing around with their brains do we?"

hahaha...we laughed

"i'll tell you a true story of this old intelligent guy, a 60 year old male...a judge, very respectable well mannered person. suddenly...towards his golden ages, he went flirting with young girls in the club...his wife, when she found out did not immediately asked for a divorce, instead... she brought him to us...'my husband suddenly change, he was never like this before!' she complained...we examined and investigated him and found.... he has a brain tumor at the base of his frontal cortex!"

waaa...

"the tumor messed around with his brain's function...which changed the respectable judge into a flirting old guy...hehe...u see, if this ever happen to an average person, they'd definitely be divorced at their golden ages!"

LOL

"guess we need to be intelligent wives" panna whispered to me...

-our brain has limitless ability, but our mind imprison it-

-they say, the sky is the limit!-

nex time we skype k

the same song again...hehe

n this year i put the lyrics in...hee...love you ayah! ^_^
I would ride on your shoulders
And look out on the world
Pretending I was big and tall like you
When you were there to hold me
I never was afraid
You made me feel there's nothing I can't do

If I'd spread my wings to fly
When I was very small
I knew that you'd be standing by
To catch me if I fall

CHORUS
You're my hero
Chasing the monsters from my room
Going on trips around the moon
The one who's always been there faithfully
You're my hero
And 'cause you're my Dad...
I'm twice as blessed and lucky to be me

As I kept on growing
We often disagreed
But you let me find myself in my own way
And it's funny, how just lately
I've come to recognize
How wise you are becoming every day
There's so much you've given me
I hope I've made you proud
You're everything a Dad should be
And it's time to tell you now

You're my hero
You didn't have to say a word
Your love was the message that I heard
Inspiring me to be all I can be
You're my hero
And 'cause you're my Dad...
I'm twice as blessed and lucky to be me

ayah...you're my hero! :D

cooking

did you know that chopping an onion in different ways can give out different taste?

i dunno if this 'hypothesis' is true

i was told that,
if i want the onion to blend in with the dish, chop them perpendicular to their layers like this

but if i want to taste chewing the onion in my cook, chop them parallel to their layers like this

and, if i want the onion's consistency in between...meaning not diluted nor too solid in my dish, chop them diagonally
(unfortunately there are no internet pictures chopping onions diagonally)
but, to be honest...i can never tell the difference yet...hee

though they are not extremely "yummie"...my cooking are alhamdulillah 'palatable'...haha
and i learnt cooking...mostly...yup!
 from my dad!
every evening after school if ayah decides to cook, i would be in the kitchen with him...
and he'd explain every single steps to me

from why he chopped the onions diagonally down to why he puts in the salt last...

and finally...i'd love to be the taster!...
ayah's favourite sentence while blowing cold the just cooked dish on spoon for me to taste is
".sssss...yang teramat amat panas!!!"
hehe

cooking always reminds me of ayah ^_^

sejukkk

nope, Egypt is not cold anymore...yeay!!!

sorry, it is sad to say goodbye to winter but kinda shame to gloom in this bright sunny happy air of spring ^_^

in 2 days time, is a special day for someone special in my life...

before...every time it was cold,
i used to run to him and complain with a long face until he gives me a warm tight hug
and i'd dip my face into his belly...with my eyes shut firm and smiling widely...hee
i really loved those moments ^_^

to be honest,
sometimes...it wasn't even cold
but, am just too excited or too sad that i needed a hug
so i'd simply go to him and say am cold
and...
he never disappoints me...that's my dad
hehe

well...since am too far now,
guess...

or i come back home...

ubat sakit jiwa

hehe
this sounds like a psychiatry problem huh?

well, u can judge my story yourself, but i believe both of us are still sane...kikiki

today is the story about this little boy who was with me most of the time during my childhood years

he's very creative in creating new games
that made life never boring back then
though we got ourselves in trouble most of the time
:s

does anyone watch Dexter's Laboratory?
we loved this show...and as persistent as we can, we insist to watch it!
(every morning, ayah had to drag us out of his room to school coz this show was on every 7.00 a.m. on cartoon network if am not mistaken...hehe)
so, inspired by this obsession....
we had this corner in our room before
where we planned inventions...haha

and...one of em we managed to pattern it out...
it's some sort of potion
which we named -
'the elixir of heartache'
(well in malay we called it ubat sakit jiwa)

what does it do?
with one puff, it blows your mind away,
and brings this visceral quenching feeling...
colicky like at the lower sternum...(as far as my memory can remember..haha, trust me...i never forgot that feeling!)

and how did we managed to produce it?
hee
with an origami art for the puffer:

and the help of my mom's bountiful dressing table
oppsss...i dunno if u ever knew this mama
every single thing that possesses the ability to stimulate our olfactory nerve
we add a drop of it into that paper ball...hehe

and the smell that emerged from all those summations of odorous substance...
was...urghh...like i described above...it reaches deep to the core of your viscera!
it was fun at first...but
after a few puffs, i regretted inventing that thing...coz my dear brother took hold of it and won't stop puffing it at my face...haha

sweet memories...miss my trouble-less days
i know u miss me boy!...miss u more!!!
and owh...happy birthday! ^_^

pocahontas

i know exam is always around the corner...haha
but wanna get out of my usual routine once in a while...
today...i wanna talk about....

Pocahontas

we all passed an age where cartoon was our life right?
or was it just me?...hehe

i love disney cartoons...between my age of around 5 (the earliest i recall of) to around 12, every disney cartoons that comes out i'd be dying to watch it...and i believed everybody too
(at twelve i entered boarding school...n there went my tv obsession~)

but to my utter surprise...i found out that all 4 of my housemates has no idea about the existence of pocahontas...whatt???

pocahontas was so extremely famous as far as i remembered...kan kan kan???
i even had a pencil case of pocahontas once before...hehe

"kiteorang tak tengok tv sangat macam kau!" they replied...ouch!hahaha

but what i never knew was...
pocahontas was actually a real story!

i jz found this out while googling for this special day...hehe

in around sixteen hudreds, when the english colonist made their first permanent settlement in america,
they obviously had fights with the locals (which were the Powhatan Indians)
Pocahontas was the 13 year old daughter of Chief Powhatan back then..
long story cut short -
she got used to the english ways, got kidnapped... fell in love in love with an english
and on 5th of april 1614 she got married to John Rolfe with the blessings of her father

my ending was:
her marriage brought peace between the Powhatan Indians and english colonist...

there was of course subsequent events after that...
(nothing is ever after in this world right?)
can go check 'em out yourself here:

*always had fun in Prof Moataz class...
and i learnt today to 'take the zero with dignity'...LOL
